In my previous post, I said that “understanding literature makes you a better writer”. This is a variation of a famous quote, “Knowledge is Power”. One interpretation of this statement would that reasoning (knowledge) gives the ability to act properly (power). In the writing sphere, power can be compared to passion. Passion is the desire that push someone to write. It is an emotion triggered by hopes and dreams.

However, while passion is a crucial component in writing, it is ultimately irrelevant for the quality of the story. Something made with dedication, doesn’t make it automatically good. Passion is a motivator, an energy to be used. But without a proper way to control it, the writer is bound to make mistakes. Inconsistencies, info dumpingA term where part of the content doesn't seem to be relevant to the story., and many others… Errors that can be bring criticism from the reader.

The reader’s enjoyment starts with his overall comprehension of the content. And by “overall comprehension“, I mean the rules that will be applied throughout the story. This part is what is refered to as knowledge, those rules are the writing techniques and literature definitions that structure passion. They are called narration, exposition or plot. Learing and applying those guidelines help the writer to direct his passion. And whatever the writer wishes to accomplish there will always be something to assist them.
